DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) ? As worked up as people often get about sports, particularly the fierce Michigan-Ohio State rivalry, one might think the games actually produced life-or-death consequences.
For 12-year-old Buckeyes fan Grant Reed, life really does depend on beating ?Michigan.? After being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2011, Reed named his tumor after his favorite team?s most hated rival.??We?ve?beaten Michigan in the short term, but like any rival there?s a chance it can come back,??Reed?s father, Troy, told NBC4i.com.
For now, though, Reed has the lead, so to speak, and he is not letting up.
Right now, Reed is beating Michigan, as his cancer has gone into remission after two years. He is out of the hospital and returns four times per year to get an MRI and is working to regain his speech and movement skills that were limited by complications with his treatments.
