AP Exclusive: US fugitive lived openly in Africa (AP)

LISBON, Portugal ? An American fugitive who brazenly hijacked a plane in the 1970s lived openly in the West African nation of Guinea-Bissau during the 1980s under his real name, a former U.S. ambassador said Thursday.

Retired Guinea-Bissau Ambassador John Blacken told The Associated Press that embassy officials even knew George Wright ? captured this week in Portugal ? but did not know he was a fugitive.

He said embassy officials would have taken action if they had known Wright had escaped from jail in New Jersey while serving time for murder and was wanted in a 1972 hijacking by the Black Liberation Army, a radical American group, that diverted a U.S. plane to Algeria.

"If we had received such a cable, we would have responded," said Blacken, who said he was stunned upon hearing the news of Wright's detention Monday in Portugal.

Wright used his own name while in Guinea-Bissau, and Blacken remembered meeting Wright socially in the former Portuguese colony in where Blacken was ambassador from 1986 to 1989.

"All this was a big surprise, my goodness, murder and everything else," Blacken said in an phone interview from Guinea-Bissau. "No one imagined him being a murderer, of course we didn't know him that well. He seemed like an ordinary person and not radical at all."

Blacken could not recall what sort of work Wright did in Guinea-Bisseau, a tiny nation on the Atlantic Ocean. He said he remembered Wright's Portuguese wife, Maria do Rosario Valente, better because she had worked as a freelance Portugese-English translator for either the U.S. embassy or for a Guinea-Bissau trade project he launched in 1993, or for other projects.

"He was known as George Wright here, and it's strange that (U.S. officials) never tracked him down here," Blacken said.

Wright has lived for at least the last two decades in Portugal, and a photocopy of his Portuguese residency card viewed by the AP listed his home country as Guinea-Bissau.

A woman who answered the phone at the Guinea-Bissau embassy in Lisbon said no one was available to comment on whether Wright obtained citizenship from the African nation.

Wright's arrest on Monday has generated intense media interest in Portugal. International camera crews were staked out Thursday around his pretty house on a cobbled street not far from a stunning Atlantic Ocean beach in Almocageme, 28 miles (45 kilometers) west of Lisbon.

Wright was convicted of the 1962 murder of gas station owner Walter Patterson, a decorated World War II veteran shot during a robbery at his business in Wall, New Jersey.

Eight years into his 15- to 30-year prison term, Wright and three other men escaped from the Bayside State Prison in Leesburg, New Jersey, on Aug. 19, 1970. While on the run, the FBI said Wright joined an underground militant group, the Black Liberation Army, and lived in a communal family with several of the groups' members in Detroit.

In 1972, Wright ? dressed as a priest and using an alias ? is accused of hijacking a Delta flight from Detroit to Miami along with other Black Liberation Army members and three children. The hijackers identified themselves to passengers as a Black Panther group, police said.

After releasing the plane's 86 other passengers in exchange for a $1 million ransom, the hijackers forced the plane to fly to Boston, then onto Algeria, where the hijackers sought asylum.

Algerian officials returned the plane and the money to the United States but allowed the hijackers to stay.

Wright and the group left Algeria by boat to Europe in late 1972 or early 1973 and settled in France, where they got jobs and lived together, said Mikhael Ganouna, producer of the 2010 documentary "Nobody Knows my Name" about the hijacking.

But Wright left the group after breaking up with a girlfriend, and Ganouna said no one knew where he went. Wright's associates were subsequently tracked down, arrested and convicted in Paris in 1976. The French government, however, refused to extradite them to the U.S.

Wright was being held in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, pending extradition hearings. He has asked to be released during the extradition process, and the court handling the case is considering his request, according to U.S. officials.

The superior court in Lisbon handling the U.S. extradition request declined to provide the AP with documents relating to the case, or the name of Wright's lawyer.

Under Portuguese law, only those directly involved in a case have access to the documents. Attendance at court sessions is also restricted to the parties involved, unless the judge grants an exception.

If a court grants an extradition request, Wright could appeal to Portugal's Supreme Court and then to the Constitutional Court, a process likely to last months.

Blacken said he didn't remember whether Wright registered with the U.S. Embassy in Guinea-Bissau in the 1980s. He said he had no knowledge of whether Wright obtained citizenship in Guinea-Bissau, but said it probably wouldn't have been hard for him to do so.

"A person living here for over a period of time who wants to apply for citizenship can normally get it regardless of his background," Blacken said.

The left-leaning authorities in Guinea-Bissau might have even been impressed if Wright had told them about his past, said Jan Van Maanen, a Dutch businessman who serves as honorary consul for the Netherlands and Britain in Guinea-Bissau.

At the time, the nation was a one-party Socialist state that strictly controlled the media, was very sympathetic to revolutionaries and had embassies from many formerly Communist countries.

"In the 70s and the 80s, they used to use passports and therefore nationality as something to decorate people with," Van Maanen said. "In our culture they use a medal or a nice-looking paper as a sign of appreciation. Here in Guinea-Bissau they used passports, saying 'We're so proud of you and here is your passport.'"

Until his arrest, life was quiet and sweet for Wright in the Portuguese hamlet of Almocageme, where neighbors said he lived for at least 20 years with his wife and two children, now in their 20s.

Locals knew him as Jorge Santos, a friendly man from Africa who did odd jobs and spoke fluent Portuguese. Over the years, he worked as a nightclub bouncer, a beach stall salesman and ran a barbecue chicken restaurant, neighbors said.

His wife answered the door Wednesday at their whitewashed house with terra cotta roof tiles in Almocageme but said she had no comment about the arrest.

At their front gate, a black mailbox in the shape of a barn carried the words "U.S. Mail."

Fantasy Football Rookie Evaluation | 3NM.ORG

Each year, many rookies come into the league and, outdoors of RBs, incredibly handful of make significantly of an effect. Maximum Fantasy Sports has put its collective heads with each other and has ranked the Top-5 fantasy football pertinent rookies on the core skill positions and their projected draft round in regular 12-team fantasy football leagues.

Receivers have an opportunity to shine in their first year, but are usually really inconsistent and demand a year or two of patience. Even so, quite a few of us play in deep Keeper leagues, so we really need to assume in regards to the future together with the present. Tend not to hang your latest season on a rookie QB. Even the terrific Peyton Manning had an regular season. The pro game is a lot more complicated and a great deal more rapidly than any group these fellas played against, or played for, in college. It still amazes me that they get drafted inside the NFL so higher and get paid a lot dollars just before proving they?re able to deal with the transition. I feel it can be a massive stretch to picture Sam Bradford even approaching the skill and good results of Tom Brady, however, the Rams made the decision that monetarily, he was really worth a lot more. Beneficial luck justifying that to your accounting staff! Below is definitely the consensus critique from Maximum Fantasy Sports for that recent draftable NFL rookies.

Quarterbacks

1. Sam Bradford (St. Louis): Bradford had an extremely forgettable 2009 due to receiving pounded in to the turf on two separate occasions and suffering shoulder injuries. Sadly, Oklahoma?s OL could possibly be greater than St. Louis?. Bradford might be the only rookie QB from this class who has an assured starting position, but the Rams will stack the playbook with operating plays and you might be hard-pressed to locate a purpose to begin Bradford to get a couple of years. He is a final round select at best.

2. Jimmy Clausen (Carolina): Clausen are going to be given the chance to win the starting position in Carolina. Ought to he do it, he features a leg up on Bradford within the name of Steve Smith. Clausen could do well in Carolina if he stays humble since they have a great RB duo and he comes from a pro-style offense at Notre Dame. Monitor education camp and think about drafting Clausen in rounds 10-12 should really he be playing very well.

3. Colt McCoy (Cleveland): Although McCoy dropped a good deal farther in the draft than I?d have guessed, he ended up inside a wonderful position. Cleveland has incredibly youthful players with the skill positions that he can simply bond with. With only INT-prone Jake Delhomme in front of him, he could wrestle the task away this year and hold onto it for an incredibly lengthy time. I?d look at grabbing him inside the final round in Keeper leagues.

4. John Skelton (Arizona): I admit, I did not see Skelton play in school. My DirecTV College Game Plan didn?t select up any Fordham games. Skelton finds himself in an enviable situation in Arizona. He?s playing behind Matt Leinart and may be throwing to Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston. Leinart has not impressed in the opportunities he has had underneath center considering getting drafted. It really is his occupation this year, but, if he flounders, I would not be shocked to find out the Cardinals give Skelton a shot. Don?t draft Skelton but that is surely a circumstance to keep an eye on this year.

5. Tim Tebow (Denver): with Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn ahead of him, he has no probability of playing for any handful of years and I am not convinced he can do the job. Don?t draft!

Operating Backs

1. Ryan Mathews (San Diego): I enjoy this kid as will the Chargers fans. He is huge, sturdy and swift for his dimension. San Diego required an energy back to complement Darren Sproles and Mathews is the fact that back. He?s the first rookie that I?d look at. I?d take into consideration him late in the 3rd round but shouldn?t final extended into the fourth round.

2. Ben Tate (Houston): Steve Slaton was a gold mine for his owners..in 2008. He fell off the map final year and raised many doubts in Houston about his long-term credentials. They grabbed Tate at the end with the second round and can give him the possibility to become their franchise back. He features a possibility to duplicate Slaton?s 2008 numbers and really should be considered draftable in late round four.

3. Jahvid Very best (Detroit): If Kevin Smith can be productive in Detroit, Ideal absolutely can. With Smith coming off of a knee injury, Ideal will get the beginning nod. The only concern with Best is that he has already suffered a number of concussions and will be facing larger, more powerful, harder-hitting defenses in the NFL. Grab him inside the 4th-5th round.

4. C.J. Spiller (Buffalo): Spiller is electrifying within the field. He?s not an every-down back, but will get 8-10 carries a game, catch some passes and return kicks. In case your league awards players for TDs on returns, bump Spiller up a round. Nevertheless, I?d not look in his course until eventually rounds 7-8.

5. Toby Gerhart (Minnesota): Gerhart can be a bruiser. I?d adore to have him on my team if I had an NFL franchise. From a fantasy standpoint, he is playing behind Adrian Peterson. That keeps him from becoming the workhorse that he?s capable of unless AP gets harm. He will nonetheless get 10 carries a game, but do not overpay for any part-time player. I would not reach in his course until finally the 8th round.

Wide Receivers

1. Demaryius Thomas (Denver): Thomas may be in line for a huge year. Denver has no clear-cut #1 WR. Brandon Marshall is gone and Eddie Royal was a no-show final year. He didn?t receive considerably press in school considering he played at Georgia Tech and they appreciate their choice offense there. Nonetheless, this kid is excellent and will be productive. I?d take into consideration him late in the 6th round.

2. Dez Bryant (Dallas): Funny how the Cowboys ended up drafting Bryant following former Cowboy, Deion Sanders, aided end Bryant?s college career prematurely. Given that Bryant was a first round choose, it really is clear to Cowboys? management that trading for Roy Williams was a bad plan. Need to Bryant stay out of trouble, he could do effectively in the Cowboys? offense with Miles Austin across the field. Appear to grab him in rounds 9-10.

3. Arrelious Benn (Tampa): Benn?s talent was wasted at Illinois due to poor play of QB Juice Williams. Sadly, he moves to a Tampa team that is certainly eerily similar to the Illini; devoid of talent. I?ll admit that Bucs? QB Josh Freeman played quite very well below the conditions that he was thrown into last year. Should really these two players click, Benn could have a major season. He is a sound 9th round choose.

4. Golden Tate (Seattle): Tate was fabulous in school and really should readily move in to the pro game. He?s a little bit quick for your pro game, but will function nicely within the slot and can get superior YAC. As prolonged at Matt Hasselbeck stays wholesome, Tate will put up beneficial numbers. I?d not attain for him ahead of round 12 though.

5. Eric Decker (Denver): Denver had such tiny faith in their latest receivers that they drafted two receivers this year within the first 3 rounds! Decker, like Thomas, can be a massive receiver with great hands. He ended his Gopher career having a foot injury, but that could not hamper him this year. I would grab Decker within the 12th round.

Tight Ends

1. Rob Gronkowski (New England): The Pats lost their two commencing tight ends from 2009 and filled that void nicely in this year?s draft. Gronkowski is 6?6? and has wonderful hands. He could revive memories of Ben Coates in New England. Using the NFL possessing numerous productive tight ends, you could quite possibly steal him within the 11th round.

2. Ed Dickson (Baltimore): The Ravens opened up the passing game last year, displaying wonderful self-confidence in QB Joe Flacco. One particular place that has underperformed in Baltimore the previous couple of years will be the tight end position. Todd Heap has been also beat-up to effectively contribute so Dickson was brought in to help him into retirement. I could see taking a flier on Dickson inside the 14th round.

3. Jimmy Graham (New Orleans): The Saints has concerns about Jeremy Shockey?s wellbeing even prior to his Could seizure. Graham can also be 6?6? and has great ?ups?, as displayed in his basketball profession. Drew Brees likes acquiring his tight ends involved inside the passing game so Graham has great potential for catching a handful of passes per game and the occasional TD. I would think about grabbing him with my last choose.

4. Jermaine Gresham (Cincinnati): At 6?5?, Gresham has the dimension to contribute in Cincinnati. However, I am skeptical concerning the Bengals offense and their capacity to make use of Gresham correctly. The Bengals drafted Chase Coffman last year and failed to employ him whatsoever. Granted, I am no talent scout, but I saw Coffman played at Missouri and believed he would have fit nicely in Cincinnati. Take a wait-and-see strategy with Gresham.

5. Anthony McCoy (Seattle): Pete Carroll extended an olive branch to USC-grad McCoy inside the 6th round of this year?s draft. John Carlson is definitely the recent pass-catching TE for Seattle, but Carroll is extremely loyal and could perform McCoy in to the offense as the season progresses. Usually do not draft but preserve an eye within the Seahawks? box score.

Just like people, companies can file for bankruptcy

Just like people, companies can file for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy is a legal declaration that you can not pay your debts. However, the problem is that if a company has a large public company that has given thousands of ordinary shares to other shareholders, occurs significantly.

If you are one of these shareholders, one might ask how the failure of this enterprise is connected.

There is no reason to panic though.Even if you own a small piece of the company, you are personally responsible for the failure of the enterprise reporting. You risk a lot of money because the value of the stock can fall to zero, but the creditors do not ask at home and asked for millions! However, they are still conscious to constantly hold responsible, as the company is operating in bankruptcy. It has a bit to say and how it works.

Companies can choose to receive7 or Chapter 11 or Chapter Most choose to Chapter 11 with the desire to one day return to profitability file, although it currently does not pay to be able to his debts. The company's stock may continue to be marketed, while this is happening. Sometimes, a trustee and creditors will take care of the reorganization, and sometimes worry the new owners. It depends on the specific situation.

In the case of Chapter 11 bankruptcy, if the restoration plan is completed, as Shareholders receive one vote. Specifically, Sent and if you agree to agree, but. If you do not agree to vote against it. Your voice makes a difference, because if enough people vote against it, the company can not carry out the plan.

In some cases this is not how to choose companies to proceed. If the company is deeply in debt and sees no possibility of return on that debt, even after a reorganization, the company declared a Chapter 7Bankruptcy> with the intention to liquidate its assets. When a fluid society, the trustee sold all assets to pay creditors. First, secured claims are paid back, and then the unsecured debts are repaid. If there is more money allocated to the shareholders, but that's rarely the case.

The bottom line is that failure is bad for everybody. Follow what's happening in your company, try to be aware that this is in the pipeline. The stock market isa gamble that paid sometimes not.

Tune-Yards Releases 'Gangsta' Video Directed By Merril Garbus (VIDEO)

Between the appearance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" and the much-adored performance at Outside Lands, Oakland-based band, Tune-Yards, had already generated plenty of buzz over the band's latest hit, "Gangsta."

But it was only a matter of time before an equally lauded music video was released.

The music video, a black-and-white Butoh-style short directed by frontwoman Merril Garbus, features behind-the-scenes footage from the tour, lyrical dancing and urban scenes that beautifully capture the song's sentiment. Lovers of the group's "Bizness" music video may miss the color and playfulness, but we think the new direction fits the more grating "Gangsta" perfectly.

Check out the new Tune-Yards video for "Gangsta" below and let us know what you think in the comments:

Thor 3D Review | AVForums.com - UK Online

Written by Simon Crust
published 27th September 2011

Supplied for review by

Zavvi

Since the site has already taken a very in-depth look at Thor, I don?t propose to spend too much time discussing the synopsis, preferring to spend more time on the 3D aspects of this disc which is, I feel, where the benefit will be, so I will just talk about a few personal thoughts and musings before moving on.

Ok, so what can I remember about Thor from the comics?? Well, I remember a winged helmet, a large hammer, a black suit with blue pants and a huge red cape.? And that?s about it.? No inclination about his superhero origins, other than a vague association with Norse mythology.? So the latest film adaptation from Marvel had little to live up to in that regard.? But what I did know was that Thor was a demigod, near immortal with near unlimited power, and this makes him very hard to relate too.? My favourite superhero was always Spiderman, not so much because of his abilities, but because of the guilt that drove him; it was a very human failing, and his existence in the ?real? world meant that he had to live within it, despite his powers.? Thor, like Superman, was an alien and not part of the human race even though both have sworn to protect it.? And due to their near limitless powers their respective foes were of equally vast magnitude.? This, again, sets them apart from our world, since nothing here can harm them, it needs extraterrestrial involvement.? So, how do we humanise their behaviour?? The best way is to give them dilemmas; situations that involve peril not to themselves but to those around them ? forcing choices and thus integrating decisions that we, the audience, can relate to.? It?s a neat trick and is one that is still being used today.

Director Kenneth Branagh?s take on Thor?s origin story diverts slightly from the ?established? comic-book but still pays plenty of homage.? Thor?s race, the Asgardians, are God like, and, indeed, were even worshipped as such by the Vikings, hence their mythology, but their real life is amongst the stars where they are the guardians of peace throughout their known universe.? Thor is the son of the King, Odin, a noble and wise ruler, who is disappointed with his son?s youthful exuberance, or arrogance, at bringing the Asgardian army and that of the Frost Giants to the brink of war; and so banishes him to Earth with no powers ? the difference being that in the film he has memories of himself and is not placed into the body and memories of an existing, partially disabled human medical student as in the comics, as well as Mjolnir, his Hammer, following him and not being discovered in a cave.? However, the fact that humility is learnt is the defining characteristic of Thor regaining his powers for the good of mankind.? For at the heart of it, this film is not about how mighty Thor is, but on the father son relationship and brotherly rivalry that most can relate to, and as such bring a very human element to the emotive structure of the narrative; and with that core, no matter how wild and fanciful the other elements become, the film can remain grounded.

Odin, the ruler of Asgard, father of Thor and adoptive father of Loki, is played by Anthony Hopkins who manages to imbue such an almighty character with both the strength and weakness of a beloved father and mighty ruler.? As a warrior he commands respect, be that on the battle field, or when speaking to his people.? His arrival after Thor?s abortive attempt at winning on the Frost Giants planet is like the coming of the apocalypse; all fire and brimstone ? yet he never over plays the voice, but shows his immense power by holding back and speaking softly, trying to prevent out and out bloodshed with simple reason, because we know, when push comes to shove, Odin does not back down and will almost certainly come out on top.? But when it comes to his sons, both natural and adopted, he is forced to make equally gruelling decisions, each one etched on the wrinkles of his well worn face.? As much as he loves Thor?s bravado and spirit, he knows he is too arrogant, too much the bully, acting before thinking and that could spell disaster for his people.? Thus he casts his son out without powers even though it tears his heart out.? He does, however, give his son enough credit to allow Mjolnir, Thor?s mighty hammer, forged in the heart of a dying star, to follow and be reclaimable, should, if and when, Thor learns what it takes to become the great leader his father knows is in him.

It is during this time that we get to know and understand Loki.? Found on the battlefield, Loki was brought to Asgard by Odin as a baby and raised as his own; but due to his very nature he is different; smaller, darker, without the Asgardian might, he relies on cunning (and mischief) to attain his goals.? His allowing of the Frost Giants into Asgard just to disrupt his brothers coronation is both foolhardy and brilliant; and it sets in motions a chain of events that will see Thor?s banishment and his own inauguration to the throne, even at the behest of his ?friends?.? Tom Hiddleston imbues Loki with that sense of mischief and mayhem typical of a brilliant mind forced into cunning due to an overbearing family.? He is heartless and jealous, failing to see the good in himself and how his life has been privileged, preferring to draw on the years of pent up anger and self loathing making him a formidable foe and one that knows Thor inside out, his strength and weaknesses.? Known mainly for TV shows before this cinematic break, he was cast due to his friendship with the director (not an unusual turn of events) but it was a serendipitous choice as he is utterly convincing in the role.? More so than that of the lead itself, I?ll wager.

So what of Thor?? He is given life by Australian born actor Chris Hemsworth who is probably best known in his career as George Kirk, ill-fated father of James T. in the Star Trek re-boot, though you?d be hard pressed to recognise him since he has changed his entire appearance for the part of the God of Thunder.? Sporting a mass of blond hair and perfectly sculpted body he looks every part like the Norse God, and when we first meet him (as an adult) he is full of that cock-sure attitude that comes with those born into money (or power).? His willingness to dive into the fray with scant regard for his friends? safety, secure in the knowledge that he is unbeatable, is undisputable arrogance.? Right and wrong may have shades of grey but justice is as straight as an arrow and that is what drives Thor, unfortunately his execution is woefully thought out and his actions tip the balance of a fragile peace into war.? Such action cannot go unpunished and it is this act that forced Odin?s hand.

These opening scenes neatly give us all the information we need to know about how the film is going to play out; Branagh does not shy away from the action, but uses it as a means to an end, by giving us the characterisation behind the Gods we understand their actions and can sympathise.? We feel for Odin?s heartbreaking choice as we feel the anguish of Thor?s banishment.? We?re just lucky that it was Earth that he was banished to, as it now moves the film along from ?angry character study with the background of war? to ?fish out of water comedy? in the blink of an eye and because we are invested in the characters we are happy to go along with it.?

Our earthly protagonists are a very familiar bunch, Clark Gregg reprises his role as SHIELD Agent Coulson from the Iron Man films, trying to keep the Mjolnir landing site under wraps as well as closing down all research into the phenomena that saw its appearance in the first place.? And Queen Amidala herself Natalie Portman takes the role of Jane Foster, originally the nurse who looked after Thor?s alter-ego in the comics, but now upgraded to an astrophysicist working on the fringes of the scientific community trying to prove the existence of an Einstein-Heisenberg Bridge (or wormhole to you and I), which, by coincidence, is the very method the Asgardians use to travel the cosmos, and thus sees Thor as physical proof of her findings.? Portman is a fine actress and is well versed in playing ?tortured? parts, so it is great to see her here ?enjoying? such a frivolous part.? She shows a natural comic timing and shares some brief but likable chemistry with Hemsworth as the two bond over lives/life?s work lost.? It is no small part to their relationship that Thor makes the sacrifice he does to earn his way back to Asgard.

And what of the story itself?? Well it?s very simple, single sentence stuff, but you know what?? It simply does not matter.? Branagh layers his characters with emotion and as such the story doesn?t need that much depth, that?s not to say it doesn?t explore some decent human themes, such as jealousy, betrayal, humility and love.? But by cleverly holding such themes in the backdrop, bubbling away, keeping the story afloat, Branagh can throw action set piece after action set piece at the screen and still maintain a credible narrative.? As such, his being chose to direct such a comic-book piece was an inspired choice and his vision elevates what could so easily have been mindless schlock to something that retains empathy and, crucially, re-watchability.?

Oh, it?s not without its flaws, the pace is very brisk and the wrap up even more so, I think a little more time to breathe would have given a slightly better pace. But honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by Thor and, even as a huge advert for the up and coming Avengers film, I think it stands firmly by itself as a decent piece of film making and I look forward with enthusiasm to his next outing.

Why you have to select Wicker Dog Crates | Love My Pets GPS Pet ...

Dog crates are extremely important if you own your dog. There are many types of dog crates out of which wicker dog crates are very famous. The biggest advantage that can help these wicker dog crates score above the other kinds is the fact that these crates are collapsible. Assembling and disassembling is easy together. Other crates for dogs like the metal one can end up being very arduous but it is easy with wicker dog crates. Metal crates are usually high maintenance. Even if you just release and allow them to remain in the area, it might wreck the beauty of your home. Moreover, these crates are very hard to transfer in one spot to another.

For this reason you have to prefer wicker dog crates. They score over metal crates for the reason that they are very light weight and simple to take care of. When you are not using it, it is simple to disassemble it and store it safely. The standard is top notch and the brand is also famous since it is so great for the dog. It?s not only safe for the cuddly pet, it is also extremely comfortable. You are able to put your dog safely in a wicker dog crate when you go on long trips. It is a big hassle whenever your dog gets excited when you are driving and wants to lick that person and goof around. You are able to thus simply tuck him the wicker dog crate and drive without any disturbance.

You?ll find many varieties of wicker dog crates in different sizes. Hence, you won!|t have to look around much to locate a wicker dog crate for your dog. The sizes vary from promising small to extra large, making it easier for you to choose according to the size of your dog. It?s guaranteed that for every dog, there is a perfect wicker dog crate.

There is one more reason why you must choose wicker dog crates !V they are super easy to wash. A cluttered dog may also be fine as you can clean the crate upright. Just one drawback is the fact that wicker dog crates aren?t actually for chewy and aggressive dogs because they could chew onto them and escape. On top of that, they are ideal for your four legged friend and also, they are perfect for your home decor.

The Death of the Staycation Pauline Frommer of Frommer Travel Guides www.smartcation.com

I wanted to make Pauline Frommer of Frommer Travel Guides the travel guide expert, an arguably the most popular in the world with her dad Arthur Frommer being one of the leading experts in the country on travel.

This segment that Pauline is talking about is the death of the Staycation and the rise of the Smartcation.

Smartcation?s according to Pauline is the emerging trend where travelers are finding creative ways to get the most value possible from shorter vacations, in destinations that offer a wide variety of unique and diverse experiences.

A North American-wide survey conducted in Spring 2011 found that:

? More people are planning to take vacations this summer than they did in the past two summers.

? The most important consideration for travelers is value for money.

? Short getaways of four days or less are becoming more popular.

? 56% of North American travelers plan to take a short summer vacation of 4 days or less, compared to 27% of respondents that plan to stay home this summer.

? 65% of North American travelers plan to spend the same amount of money or more than they did on travel last year.

'Google Drive' May Be Coming to Android Phones Near You (ContributorNetwork)

Google already offers ways to keep your documents and music synced up online, via Google Docs and Google Music (Beta). These "cloud" services let you read, write or listen to the same stuff whether you're at home or using your Android smartphone or tablet.

If you want to have access to your other files, though, you have to use a third-party service like Dropbox or MG Siegler of TechCrunch, Google's been working on a "Google Drive" app for years ... and it may be almost ready to hit the market.

It's not just Google, either

Companies like HTC are starting to realize that people want access to all of their stuff, everywhere. That's why the Taiwanese smartphone maker recently partnered with Dropbox, giving everyone who buys a phone with the newest version of HTC Sense an extra 3 GBs of storage on Dropbox for free. (That's 5 GBs total, in case you're not counting.)

Microsoft has had its own Windows Live Skydrive for awhile now, but it's kind of lacking in mobile phone apps. Although someone in New Zealand did point out that an app might be on its way ... to Windows Phone 7, natch.

Meanwhile, Amazon and Apple are both working on their own cloud solutions. Amazon's Cloud Drive and Cloud Player (like Google Music) will probably both be featured on its upcoming Android tablet, although only the Cloud Player is affixed an "i" to the cloud, but its iCloud's still under construction.

So who will want Google Drive?

The likeliest candidates? People who already use a ton of Google devices and services. Chromebook owners especially, all eight of them (I kid). No more storing files on SD cards! Now you'll be able to get to your PDFs and MP3s anywhere.

For that matter, Siegler notes that code has been found in Chromium (the open-source project that underlays Google's Chrome web browser) which suggests that it might integrate with Google Drive; the same way you sync your bookmarks across computers, you might be able to sync all your files too, or at least a folder.

The biggest downside?

Google already knows everything else about you, including what sites you have bookmarked if you use Chrome/ium. Now it's going to know what's on your hard drive, too. Microsoft may have built Skydrive, but Google appears to be building Skynet.

Bank of America said to sell $880 million of commercial real estate ...

by Jimmy on September 25, 2011

Bank of America Corp. has reached an agreement to sell an approximately $880 million portfolio of commercial mortgages at a discount of 20% to 25% off the face value, according to a person familiar with the deal.

A venture of Square Mile Capital Management LLC,?Invesco Ltd. and a fund managed by Canyon Capital Realty Advisors LLC is buying the portfolio, a mix of performing and nonperforming loans tied to 32 properties, the person said. The buildings include the eight-story Renaissance Centre office building in Wilmington, Del., and the Bank of America Tower in St. Louis, which is not owned by the bank.

The deal is among the largest commercial mortgage portfolio sales of the year, coming as many banks continue to shed loans made during the market?s peak. Generally, banks were reluctant to sell during the years immediately following the recession but began doing more deals as commercial real-estate values recovered.

Bank of America has been selling off assets that aren?t part of its core businesses. Recently, the bank has also sold an $8.6 billion Canadian consumer credit-card portfolio, an $8.3 billion stake in?China Construction Bank Corp. and a $1.5 billion stake in?HCA Holdings Inc. It also is planning to sell other international consumer credit-card operations and private-equity portfolios.

Chief Executive Brian Moynihan has pledged to shrink the bank to sharpen its focus and meet global standards on how much capital it must hold.

At the end of the second quarter, Bank of America reported $66 billion in commercial real-estate loans, including construction loans, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., down $2 billion from the first quarter. A major lender during the real-estate boom that ended in 2007, the bank has gradually been shedding its commercial mortgages, typically in sales that were smaller than the one to the Square Mile group.

The sale of the loan portfolio comes as the commercial real-estate market is showing signs of cooling amid market volatility and growing concerns about the possibility of a double-dip recession. Investors and lenders have been pulling back from what had been a two-year run of values, particularly in major cities.

The bundle of loans, marketed by brokerage?Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., includes loans tied to a variety of hotels, office buildings and industrial properties in 15 states, a person familiar with the matter said.

The buyers have been active lately: New York private-equity firm Square Mile recently was part of a team that bought a 4,700-unit distressed apartment portfolio in the Midwest, while Dallas-based Invesco in June bought into 230 Park Ave. in Manhattan, an office building.

Are Hybrid Alternative Energy Vehicles The ... - health and fitness

Alternate energy cars have grown to be a hot topic as the price of gasoline continues to rise. The most popular type of alternative fuel car is the hybrid car but you will find others, like the ethanol-fueled cars, that happen to be gaining traction. Bio-diesel cars and trucks are also gaining popularity, these cars run on used cooking oil.

Given that hybrid cars are trying to find better gas mileage by pairing electric power with a fuel source, that makes them alternative fuel cars. From the time of the invention of the car, there have been alternative fuel cars, but fuel only cars, because of their power and speed, won the marketplace. Initial hybrid cars probably would top out at 25 miles an hour and last for about 10 minutes. The car industry nowadays is being pressured to create alternative fuel cars because of pollution and rising fuel costs.

Hybrid cars come in many different varieties since the technology is so complex. The electric powered portion of certain hybrid alternative fuel cars is used to produce an extra boost to the car?s engine when starting the car or when its running. Others take advantage of the electric powered portion to shut part of the gas motor down when it doesn?t need to be used. One of several problems with the hybrids is the minimal power offered, but the newer hybrid vehicles are offering more power with better gas mileage. With all the advancements in technology, the power should continue to get better, as well as the savings in fuel.

The auto industry would like to manufacture better hybrid alternative fuel cars, so they aim largely on being able to maintain power, and work on increasing gas mileage at the same time. Truck owners are also demanding hybrids too so car companies are building them as well. There?s lots of power in these hybrid trucks plus the gas mileage is better and they can power electrical tools. It?s hard to say at this stage what will happen to the hybrid car down the road. It really is possible that supply and demand will win and gas will be replaced by cleaner alternative fuels. As long as hybrid car technology continues to progress, the popularity will continue to grow.

These kinds of cars will continue to improve in power and gas mileage even while reducing the amount of pollutants in the air. Even though there is a demand for alternative fuel vehicles, the cost is still high simply because sales have not caught up with regular vehicles. The buying price of these alternative fuel vehicles starts around $20,000, but the US government offers a tax incentive to the buyers, and they are also investing funds into alternative fuel cars.

Concepts of probability ? Addition Rule & Rule of multiplication

Most students could also, where the rule of addition and multiplication are confused usually use probability. This article gives you a clear view on where we add and multiply the probabilities.

A student solves the following two questions as follows:
Problem: A boy is allowed to select a random number between the numbers from 1 to 999. What is the probability that the chosen number is divisible by 3 or 5, but not both?

First, find out how many numbersdivisible by 3. It's just (999 / 3 = 333).
So probably the chosen number is divisible by 3 = 333/999 = 1 / 3
Second, you find out how many numbers divisible by 5. It's just (999 / 5 = 199).
It is likely that selected number divisible by 5 = 199/999
The probability that the chosen number divisible by 3 or 5, but not both = 1 / 3 +199 / 999 = 532/999 is. ????? Adding principle

Problem: A coin and dice are thrown simultaneously. What is the probability that hehave head and three at once?

The probability of a head = ?
The probability of three = 1 / 6
The probability that three heads = 1 / 2 x 6.1 = 12.1 ???- ? principle of multiplication.

We also know why he used the principle in the first issue and the principle of multiplication in the second problem?

The approach depends on the ratio of events:

???????? Report events with the principle
ReciprocallyExclusive Events ???????- principle added
Principle of independent events multiply ?????????-

Mutually exclusive: we say that A and B are two events, intended to prevent, if B does not occur when it occurs, and vice versa.

Independent event, we say that A and B two events and is called independent if the outcome of an event A does not affect the results of the event B and vice versa.

While the first problem is aCase of mutually exclusive events is the number that is collected is divisible by 3 or 5, but not both, he used included the principle.

Since the problem is to throw a second case of independent events, or a cube and a coin are the events that are independent of each other, it uses the principle of increase.

Strategic Planning Survey Results | 60 Minute Strategic Plan - Blog

60?Minute Strategic Plan?sent a survey at the beginning of this year to our e-newsletter distribution list. The purpose of the survey was to understand what features to include in our web-based strategic planning application. I shared the result previously in our e-newsletter, but thought I?d share the results here in our blog.

We had a really good response rate of 15 percent. Sixty-seven percent of the respondents were business owners/CEOs and 28 percent were senior executives or managers. Here?s what they said:

  • 93 percent disagreed with the statement ?We don?t need a strategic plan,? yet 34 percent did not have a plan in place.
  • 71 percent agreed that it?s challenging to find enough time to develop a strategic plan.
  • 74 percent agreed that it?s challenging to dedicate resources (money/people) to creating and executing a plan.
  • 66 percent agreed that it?s difficult to delegate and manage the execution of strategic plans.
  • 55 percent agreed that it?s difficult to track the progress and manage the execution of strategic plans.
  • 65 percent agreed that it?s difficult to keep strategic plans updated with changing business conditions.
  • 42 percent agreed that it?s difficult to communicate a strategic plan to employees.
  • 44 percent disagreed that most employees understand their role in implementing the company?s strategic plan.
  • 58 percent said that they executed their plans to completion only about half of the time.

Market Knowledge Does Matter When Buying Real Estate

Midtown Atlanta Real EstateSo, you?re looking for that new home or condominium and you?ve made a smart decision in seeking the help of a professional, a real estate agent, to represent you and your interests. An important point you need to consider is??? Market knowledge DOES matter when buying real estate!

You?re thinking, what a silly statement. Isn?t that what real estate people do? Know the market and what is happening? Well, you are about 50% right with that statement. Let me explain why choosing the RIGHT real estate agent for your home or condominium purchase is so important.

First off, any real estate agent that says they can help you anywhere (we?ll use the Atlanta market place as an example) is probably not a totally correct statement either. Take Lake Lanier or Lake Allatoona. Both are in the Atlanta Area. Both areas are within driving distance for me. Have I ever SOLD or LISTED lake property? NO! Do I know anything about lake shore easements, sea walls,?docks and such? NO! So, do you think I?m the right agent to represent you in the purchase or sale of lake front property. Well, I?ll be the first to tell you?.NO! But I will find you an agent that works in the area that I know and that is familiar with these unique issues and refer you to them. Again that question,? Market knowledge DOES matter when buying real estate!

Buying Midtown Atlanta Condominiums?is very much the same way. Let?s say you are standing on the balcony on the 10th floor of a building, and there is a vacant lot, or a 3 story building across the street. You ask your agent what is proposed for that vacant lot. Do they know? Hmmm. I probably would. Because?Midtown Atlanta?is my market and I make it my business to know what?s happening in my market. (As a disclaimer to that statement, you as a Buyer are equally responsible to do your own due diligence on any issues that may be of concern to you, such as the future impact on your view.)

Today, I received a strange call. It was from another agent in the Atlanta ara with one of the MAJOR brokerage firms. When I answered the phone, she asked me if this was the Sales Center for?MidCity Lofts Condominiums. Ah?.darhling?.MidCity Lofts was built in 2002!!! Which means the Sales Center has probably been closed for about EIGHT YEARS! Really? Are you representing a Buyer? Do you KNOW the?Midtown Atlanta Condominium?market well enough to be looking for a sales center that was closed 8 years ago? Scare me!

The same consideration should be given if you are in the market to SELL your Midtown Atlanta Condominium or home. Just because your husband?s brother?s wife?s sister is a real estate agent does not mean they are your best choice to represent you in the marketing and sale of your home.? Do your research. Google the name of your building (or community). See who you find? Most likely if they are knowledgable and know your building, they will either have a page on their site about it that ranks in a Google Search (good marketing point) or they will have written blog posts about the neighborhood. Check out our page?About Midtown Atlanta.

Selling or buying your home is a big thing.? Market knowledge DOES matter when buying real estate!

Grohl, Novoselic reminisce about 'Nevermind'

It's been 20 years since the release of Nirvana's "Nevermind." The album, which included cultural anthems like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come As You Are," marked the beginning of the alt-rock movement of the 1990s and transformed drummer Dave Grohl, bassist Krist Novoselic and singer-guitarist Kurt Cobain into the posterboys of Generation X, until Cobain's tragic suicide in 1994.

On a recent afternoon inside 606 Studio, the sprawling headquarters for Grohl's band Foo Fighters, Grohl and Novoselic, while slumped on a couch near the same soundboard that they used to record "Nevermind," reminisced with producer Butch Vig about how they made the album that forever changed their lives and what impact it had on the world.

Story: Why Nirvana's 'Nevermind' spoke to a generation

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of "Nevermind," which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, Universal is reissuing the remastered album Sept. 27 with various special editions. Bonus material includes obscure B-sides, alternate mixes, live recordings and video of the band's 1991 Halloween concert at Seattle's Paramount Theatre.

A limited super deluxe edition features rehearsal recordings captured on a boombox ("It was in the bottom of a box of stuff that was gonna get thrown out," Novoselic recalls) and the original unused "Nevermind" mixes that Vig hoarded until the group began planning for the album's anniversary last year.

AP: What was your a-ha moment when you realized that "Nevermind" had become bigger than you?

Grohl: I'd say "Saturday Night Live." Being asked to be on "SNL" was without a doubt that moment for me. That's when I thought, "Oh my God. We're one of THOSE bands now." Then, in the dressing room, that's when (expletive) "Weird Al" Yankovic calls and asks if he can do a parody of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." That was a weird weekend. That was it for me.

Novoselic: It was shocking to be famous. I bought a house to deal with it. Then, of course, there was Kurt, who was thrust into being the spokesman of a generation. That was hard for him. He had some personal things going on that were happening just as fast. He was in a whirlwind. Kurt didn't necessarily identify with Generation X or mainstream values.

AP: What was it like going back and listening to "Nevermind" after all these years?

Vig: It's still out there. It's omnipresent, but this is the first time I've listened to from a critical perspective. The remastering sounds great. The album holds up really well. It's timeless. I think part of that is because the songs are really good. The production isn't gimmicky. It's just bass, drums and guitar. There's not any sort of trendy sound.

Grohl: "Nevermind" represents more than just an album with music on it to me. It was a specific, exciting time in my life. Personally, my life is split by the release of that album. My entire life is pre-"Nevermind" and post-"Nevermind." When it came out, my whole (expletive) world was changed forever. There's something about the innocence of it all.

AP: How do you think music has changed since "Nevermind" was released?

Grohl: Honestly, if you look at what was going on back then, outside of technology, all of that stupid (expletive) that was going on is still going on today. You've got stupid shows on TV to make people famous so they can sell records. The top 10 is full of crap. It's the same (expletive). You've got all these rock bands trying to make it in a van somewhere.

Vig: With information moving so fast, the whole world has A.D.D. You only grab onto something for a second before you discard it. When "Nevermind" happened, it was still a slower time. That record really took off from a grass-roots level. The label printed something like 40,000 copies. Word of mouth was faster than the Geffen publicity machine could handle.

AP: How do you feel about the impact "Nevermind" had not just on music but on culture?

Grohl: I have this shut-off valve. When I start getting to that place where I consider the impact of the album, I just turn off because it's hard to imagine something so innocent and simple turning into something that's out of your hands. I think that album came out at a time when a lot of kids didn't have anything to believe in and Nivrana was entirely real.

Story: 12 unlikely covers of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

Novoselic: I remember at the time when Nirvana was just breaking and we were still very idealistic about it. We thought, "Yeah, we're gonna change the world!" It's like when I first heard punk rock music and even hard rock music, it spoke to me, but then again, revolutions get co-opted, and it never really turns out the way you think it would turn out.

AP: If there was some rip in the space-time continuum, do you think you could have made "Nevermind" today?

Vig: I don't think it would sound the same. There's a feel on the record that you can't really manipulate. These days, I love computers and moving stuff around and (expletive) with the sound. I feel technology would somehow get in the way of the kind of record we made back then. I know it wouldn't make it better. It's impossible to imagine that happening now.

Grohl: With technology these days, we could have been one of those bands who recorded it by ourselves in a garage and uploaded it to YouTube and bypassed any of the conventional industry routes. Who knows? I know that if Krist and I went in that booth right now and recorded on that board, we could sound exactly the same. That's how simple the whole thing was.
