60?Minute Strategic Plan?sent a survey at the beginning of this year to our e-newsletter distribution list. The purpose of the survey was to understand what features to include in our web-based strategic planning application. I shared the result previously in our e-newsletter, but thought I?d share the results here in our blog.
We had a really good response rate of 15 percent. Sixty-seven percent of the respondents were business owners/CEOs and 28 percent were senior executives or managers. Here?s what they said:
- 93 percent disagreed with the statement ?We don?t need a strategic plan,? yet 34 percent did not have a plan in place.
- 71 percent agreed that it?s challenging to find enough time to develop a strategic plan.
- 74 percent agreed that it?s challenging to dedicate resources (money/people) to creating and executing a plan.
- 66 percent agreed that it?s difficult to delegate and manage the execution of strategic plans.
- 55 percent agreed that it?s difficult to track the progress and manage the execution of strategic plans.
- 65 percent agreed that it?s difficult to keep strategic plans updated with changing business conditions.
- 42 percent agreed that it?s difficult to communicate a strategic plan to employees.
- 44 percent disagreed that most employees understand their role in implementing the company?s strategic plan.
- 58 percent said that they executed their plans to completion only about half of the time.
